Thesis done, Our movie, Haystack
I defended and presented my thesis last Friday. Joanna gave an awesome reading. In non-book arts news, my and Adam Weinstein's film Good Neighbors, about housing development in Tuscaloosa, will be screened at the Bama Theatre (on Greensboro Avenue in Tuscaloosa) this Tuesday the 27th at 7 pm along with the rest of the Documenting Justice films.
I am going to Haystack at the end of May for a printmaking/bookbinding class. I like the work of the instructors- Pati Scobey and Barb Tetenbaum, and am excited to have some structure for making new work in this transition time.

Frozen banana
I need to make more banana paper for the covers of my thesis. But, we have had below freezing weather now for 5 (?) days, unusual for Alabama, and the banana plant in my backyard is totally deflated. Previously, in making the paper I have used the turgid, water filled stalks of the non-frozen incarnation. I may have to experiment with using the fiber of the crushed and frozen stalks, and see if I get a similar result. If anybody knows about this drop me a line: kidneypress@gmail.com.
